Meet Katherine
Because your special day should be a work of art...

Award-winning painter Katherine Gressel travels worldwide to weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, birthday parties, family reunions, and corporate events, and captures the action in a live painting. Past events have ranged from intimate family picnics to elaborate celebrity weddings. Each painting serves as both entertainment for guests and a lasting memento of your special day.

Katherine strives to capture the energy and emotion of the happiest day of your life in a dynamic, impressionistic composition. She spotlights a special moment--a dance, vow exchange, speech, etc--between two or more key people while preserving the looseness and freshness of live action painting in the background and supporting characters. Katherine also views each painting as a collaboration, as she takes care to incorporate the colors, decor details, and special guests that make your wedding unique.

Katherine is therefore committed to the highest artistic standards when painting your event, and brings extensive administrative/planning experience. She will work with you both before and after the event to ensure that the process is smooth, and the final product is something you will treasure forever!

Katherine currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, daughters, and cat. She was thrilled when a few couples first asked her to paint their cats into their wedding scenes (though she'd already painted many dogs--and even a horse and pet pigs!) In addition to painting events, she loves going to museums and the beach and watching romantic comedies, and she plays a mean game of Scrabble and Spelling Bee!

Katherine's love of sharing her painting process with event guests is a natural extension of her background in public art and art education. In addition to painting events live since 2008, Katherine has exhibited and worked in NYC galleries, and received grants to paint murals and curate contemporary art exhibitions in NYC and abroad. She has run arts education programs and consulted for such nonprofit art organizations as Smack Mellon Gallery, FIGMENT NYC, Creative Time, Groundswell Mural Project, Americans for the Arts, and No Longer Empty.  Katherine received her BA in painting with honors from Yale University and MA in arts management from Columbia University.
